Getting Your First Waja

You start this game with an empty cave, not even one waja to get you started. The very first thing you should do, is go to the Custom Demo and look at the different breeds of waja. From there, decide what your favourite breeds are. Even if you want to have a cave filled with all types of wajas, you have to start somewhere.

If you have friends who have been playing for a little while, they may donate you a pup to get you started. There are also forum threads dedicated to donating free pups/wajas to people who are only just starting. Before you ask for your first waja, make sure you know how to accept a transfer.

1. Accepting a Transfer

If a friend has sent you a waja, or you’ve been donated one from a newbie give-away, they will transfer the pup to you. Click on the home link and select your transfers. Click on wajas. If there is a pup waiting for you, it will appear under “incoming waja transfers”. All you need to do is click the accept button and the waja is yours.

2. Purchasing a Waja

If you’ve earnt yourself a purse full of waja credits, you can buy wajas. Browse the waja sales threads for the waja types you are interested in. Click on the seller’s screen name to go to their profile, from there you can click the link to view their cave. In the cave, a waja that is for sale will have [For Sale] under their name, the price may also be indicated under the name as well. This is commonly referred to as AUTOBUY, as people can purchase wajas without having to interact with the owner. Clicking on the waja will take you to the details page, where you can see a full-sized image of the waja, a list of all markings and mutations it carries, and all statistics.

Before you purchase a waja, look at the generation number, and decide if you are specifically looking for low-gen wajas or not. Look at the markings; a waja that is apparently unattractive may have strong markings you can breed for if paired with the right waja. Check the gender of the waja: males are very uncommon in litters and the vast majority of wajas will be female. Make sure the waja doesn’t carry any mutations that you particularly don’t want. Finally, check the lineage against any wajas that you may want to breed your purchase to, and ensure that any common relations are distant enough to not discourage potential buyers of your pups.

To purchase a waja, on the details page there will be a light blue purchase button with a price underneath. This is the price in waja credits. Clicking purchase will take you to a confirmation page. Transactions occur instantly, so be certain that you really want the waja.

2.1 Low and High Generations

As a general rule, the higher the generation of a waja, the less expensive it is to buy, and the harder it is to sell. As a beginner, cheap hi-gen wajas are a great place to start. They are inexpensive, and are perfect for “practicing” your breeding. The resulting wajas can be on-sold for low prices or given away to others who are just starting out.

Once you’re ready to get serious about breeding and selling the pups, you’ll want to either find low-gen wajas that match the appearance you are looking for, or make a custom pair.

2.2 Customising Your Waja

Once you own a waja, you have full access to that waja’s details. From the details page you can now change the waja’s name, title, selling price, stud price, and description. The selling and breeding options will be turned off by default. As transactions are instant, be very careful when setting these options. If you accidentally select sell instead of breed, you might lose your waja to another player, and be unable to get it back.

You don’t have to give your waja a title, but it can be helpful to provide information to others looking at the waja. I give titles to my wajas as a role playing aspect. Common titles include the waja’s sale price, where the waja came from, parentage information, or such things as “newbie giveaway”.

In the box at the bottom, you can put a description of the waja, or any information, such as how you acquired the waja. The information you put here can be role-playing information, or notes to yourself about breeding and other activities.

If you click on one of the other tabs at the top of this section, you will lose any changes, so make sure you click update before navigating away. Other tabs show information such as parentage, previous owners, offspring, and allow owners to add wallpaper, or even retire a waja. A retired waja can no longer breed. This is permanent, and a retired waja cannot be brought out of retirement. Some people choose to retire wajas with high inbreeding percentages, or wajas that they think are particularly ugly.

2.3 Cave Rules

In your cave, you are invited to create a set of cave rules. These dictate your rules on breeding. In the cave rules, you should lay out all considerations other players need to know before requesting to breed with one of your wajas. Be polite, but firm. In your cave, your rules are paramount, and all player’s requesting breedings must abide by them.

What sort of things should there be cave rules about?

  • If they are reverse breeding, who supplies the love pear?
  • Are you willing to haggle on your breeding fees?
  • How many pups from a litter do you expect to keep?
  • Are there markings/mutations that you will not breed with?
  • How do you feel about in- or line breeding?

Most of these questions will make more sense as you continue through this guide.
